Opposites, Scrooged, and the Christmas Spirit

posted on: Friday, December 2, 2016

Happy Friday, friends! I’m currently in sweats, watching Scrooged with Adam. Penny Lane, recovering from being sick all week, is happily laying in front of her space heater. Yes, it’s pretty much hers at this point. Our radiator does a good enough job for the humans in this house. Penn loves the warmest, sunniest spot in the apartment at any time and we oblige. Nola, on the other hand, is lying in front of a slightly cracked sliding glass door enjoying the little bit of very cold air wafting into our warm abode. She loves the cold and laying on the cold tile of our balcony when the sun goes away. Total opposites, those two.

I’m heading out of town on Monday, so I’m looking forward to taking advantage of the Christmas spirit here in the city before I leave for a week. We’re going to see the windows, explore the lights, and maybe even visit the best tree in the country (Rockefeller Center, of course). You can follow along on Snapchat or Instagram stories (@iamkatyhill on both). I’ll report back on Monday. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

And a happy weekend to you

It’s Friday! Hooray! I hate to say I live for the weekends, but I live for the weekends at the moment. Looking for a job, cleaning the apartment, and hanging out at the laundromat is only so much fun, you know what I mean? I love weekends here, where we get to explore and have a little bit of rest and fun and pretend we’re unsupervised kids in the big city, which it actually feels like somedays. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Weekends are for exploring

One of our favorite things to do here on in the city is pick an area of town, jump on the subway, and walk as much of it as we can. Adam has this goal to walk every single street in Manhattan. He keeps track of where we end up strolling using an app and then uploads it to one map that shows exactly where we’ve walked. Yes I know, it’s slightly nerdy but I love it, I love him, and I love this city so much that I’m always game to log some miles. The cool thing is, you think you’ve explored an entire neighborhood until you look at the map and see that you haven’t even touched half of it.

We thought we had already broken our feet in but, as it turns out, we were wrong. I keep having to remind myself that we’re not just on vacation. We’re here indefinitely and there’s absolutely no need to see everything in a day or two and run ourselves ragged. I just feel like time not exploring the city is a waste, so I’m working to try and find a balance, if one exists. I think I just need to be better about resting when I can and exploring when I have the chance.

Last weekend we explored the financial district a bit, and this weekend we spent a little bit of time in the West Village where I saw Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment and ate doughnuts two days in a row because, doughnuts, am I right? The weather here this weekend was pretty awful. A lot of rain, a good amount of wind (rendering our protective umbrellas useless), and a blanket of humidity, but we made it work and I was a total trooper! (HA!) Okay in all honesty, I was in a horrible mood for a bit on Saturday because rain, sweat, and wind just don’t mix and of course I was feeling super cute before we left the house (silly me). But I got over it and we had a really great weekend. I’ll take the frizzy hair if it means time spent hanging around the city, thankyouverymuch.

Migrating South For The Weekend

posted on: Friday, June 26, 2015

This weekend, Adam and I are packing up the pups and our bags and are heading a couple of hours south to a new little town that my mom and step-dad just moved to in South Carolina. They’ve been there for a month or so now and it’s about time we get ourselves down there and do a little exploring. We’re planning on heading to the beach but, you know, just to look. Too many sharks in the water for this beach-loving lady.

Anyway, you will be able to follow along with our grand adventure on Snapchat. That’s right, I, very hesitantly, joined Snapchat back in April and then quickly became obsessed with it. Ob-sessed. If you’re over there and would like to give my Snaps a try, you can do just that by following iamkatyhill.

Side note: The lovely Heather gave my Snapchat and Instagram accounts a little shout out this week and it absolutely made my day. Thank you, Heather!

Time to get the car packed up and head on out for the weekend. I hope you all have a most wonderful one ahead of you.
