On Saturday, we woke up a bit late, walked the dogs and ran a few miles. We’re hoping to run a few races in the next six months, so we’re back to a regular training schedule. After a little downtime, we contemplated heading to IKEA to purchase a couple things for the apartment that we’re slowly furnishing and getting to where we want it. Budget is tight (hello, NYC), so we’re making sure to buy things as we can and not overdo it. I’m still looking for work here, so any way we can save is great.
Okay, so it’s a known fact that IKEA is the most exhausting when you own a car, let alone when you have to take the subway an hour to Brooklyn, stand in crazy-long weekend checkout lines, pay $50 to take a Lyft back, or attempt to carry a ton of heavy boxes up and down stairs, onto the subway, only to go up more stairs and walk the few blocks home and do you see where I’m going with this? Needless to say, I was not up for that sort of challenge that morning. We may attempt it next Saturday, since it’s a three-day weekend and I will have the next five days to mentally prepare.
Since we would not be downright exhausting ourselves for the rest of the day, we headed out to the Astoria/Long Island City area where we went to a couple of breweries and ate at a tasty BBQ joint. I seriously felt like I was back in Asheville for a minute. We took the train back after that, walked the Upper East Side a bit, and then headed back home to relax for the rest of the night.
On Sunday, we tried another new (to us) church, walked right by Christian Slater, had lunch at home and then ventured back out for a little more exploring that included eating a few delicious pastries as we walked. We’re watching The Great British Baking Show on Netflix and needed to satisfy some stubborn cravings. Mission accomplished.
My goal today is to NOT walk too much, but we’ll see if that actually happens. Don’t get me wrong, I love walking everywhere, but my feet need a serious break.
