Lunch date: 5Church

posted on: Wednesday, November 6, 2013

For the last two months, Adam has been in a 10-week program to learn coding. Long story short, he has had some very long days away from home. Three days a week, he works all day and then heads right to his coding class (which is in the same building) until late. Add in homework on the weekends and it means I’ve been seeing a lot less of my Adam. We’re almost finished with this crazy schedule, thank goodness, but to make it a little easier on us we made a set lunch date each week. Sometimes you have to schedule in quality time and make it a priority. It has seriously helped us so much! I’ve been taking photos on most of our dates as we’ve been trying to go different places for lunch each week to try and expand our local-restaurant horizon. We tend to rely on old favorites when we do get out for lunch or dinner, so this was a great opportunity to try some new spots.

Our first date, during the first week of this new schedule we were embarking on, was at 5Church.

First of all, one of my favorite things about 5Church is the ambiance. Even at lunch time. Their ceiling is covered in black paint, lined with chapters from “The Art of War” in white writing. The whole entire 40,000-word epic. I mean, you guys, that’s some serious attention to detail. The exposed pipes, the dome pendant lamps lighting the leather couches. It’s really beautiful.

As far as the food goes, we chose to go with their lunch special. Sandwich, fries and a drink for $10. You really can’t beat that deal. They do everything well, so you can trust you’re going to have a really great sandwich. We just had to order ourselves the grilled prosciutto di parma, which was so good. The toasty bread, the saltiness of the prosciutto, the creaminess of the mozzarella with the sweetness of the balsamic drizzle and freshness of the tomato. Delicious! To make a sandwich truly special, you have to use the freshest ingredients and they definitely do just that.

SO! If you live in Charlotte, or happen to find yourself in town, get yourself there for lunch or dinner.
