and then there was food…and it was good

We plan our vacations around where we will be eating. This is just a fact of life and luckily, we both care more about the delicious food we will eat than much else on vacation. We eat breakfast and talk about where we will be eating lunch and we talk about dinner while eating lunch and well, you get the point. I had most dining options listed and planned before I even thought about museums. We had to hit Shake Shack and Founding Farmers first and foremost, which we successfully accomplished. We also saw a feature for the Tortilla Cafe on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and couldn’t resist. So here are a ton of food pictures. Get ready to get hungry. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Did you know that Shake Shack has corn dogs? Oh yes..but only three times a year and we just so happen to be there on one of those three weekends. So woop, there it is.

Chocolate shake. Amazing.

Empanada and poupousa from Tortilla Cafe. SO GOOD!

Cupcakes are just my favorite thing in the world. Crumbs was amazing and their cupcakes were the size of Costco muffins. I think Sprinkles took the cake(ha, see what I did there?) with their salted caramel cupcake. Oh me, oh my. We need to move to a city with a Sprinkles cupcake shop. True story.

Hands down, our favorite dining experience was Founding Farmers. We were told by everyone we asked to go to this place and it did not disappoint. The food was incredible, service was wonderful and the ambiance of the place was just what we were looking for to celebrate our four year anniversary. Cheers to that, I say!

The pot roast was so good.

Beignets. I mean…just…BEIGNETS PEOPLE!

Oh yes.

So the point of this post is mainly to say that we ate quite well. DC, you have some majorly delicious food. That’s for darn sure. Thank you for our full bellies, you made us so very happy.

  • Oh myyyyy I am much like you, I am always thinking about the food and where we will be eating next. :)

  • Yep, we definitely plan a good portion of our travel around food as well. Or, more likely, I have a list of cupcake and frozen yogurt shops that I want to hit up so those get planned into our day. :)

Your meal at Founding Farmers…..oh my it looks amazing!! Whatever that apple/cheese/jam/crostini is that you photographed looks delicious! And the delicious beverage, and the beignets, um yeah.

  • Yes! It’s definitely the way to go. Good food makes me happy!

  • Dee

Ha, My husband and I are absolutely the same way when we travel. Mostly due to my obsession about food and I don’t know how that makes me feel. :)

In any case, I love me some shake shack! I did not know they sold corn dogs tho. Snaps! I’m gonna have to go this weekend to check it out. And yes, I agree. Sprinkles is much tastier than Crumbs. I love Georgetown cupcakes too, tho.

  • I’m pretty obsessed with food too. I love all of your food pics, they look so good…makes me hungry :)

  • It was ALL SO GOOD at Founding Farmers! Every last bite. Seriously. Oh and I can’t blame you on the froyo and cupcakes. Two of my most favorite foods. Yum!

  • Dee, exactly! Are we proud of our obsession with food? I think we should be. We appreciate the little things in life, right? Like bites of AMAZING food.

Unfortunately they rarely do corn dogs, BUT..they have them on July 4th as well. So don’t forget to go then!

I heard mixed reviews about Georgetown cupcakes and there was a huge line every time we walked by so luckily, Sprinkles satisfied our need for butter and sugar.

  • Thank you Emily!
