feeling a little bit lighter

Saturday morning Adam got up (super) early to workout and the dogs were just kind enough to stay quiet until eight. It was lovely to wake up, let the dogs out and put on some music while I slowly made my french press coffee. I played with the dogs and just took my time waking up. It was really peaceful and I felt a sense of contentment that stress has shoved aside lately. I had it back this weekend and I like it too darn much to let it runaway again anytime soon. So there’s that. Things have been tough, guys. Not that life is ever really easy, but we’re begging for a break. We’re just tired. We sort of need life to be easy for a little bit, you know? We needed a weekend like this though and for that I am grateful. A chance to rid of so much clutter. This helps when things get a little rough and hopefully it’ll help us feel a bit lighter.

So clearly, when I mentioned a lot of cleaning and organizing(and donating/tossing) would be going on this weekend, well turns out I was right on the money. Honey. We got rid of so much STUFF! We started this process on New Years Eve, but hit the big ole pause button once real life returned. We’ve now pushed play again. Luckily, neither of us are pack rats. I actually love the thrill of simplifying and downsizing. Toss, toss, toss. The only reason we end up holding onto things is because we’re usually just too lazy to take the time to stop and think if we really need each and every little thing, then find places to store the things we do need. Or to even just go through the boxes in general.

When we moved to Charlotte, we had two weekends to do so. After taking our time trying to get rid of things, we realized we just needed our stuff in boxes as soon as possible. So finally, this year came the time when I was just tired of STUFF and wished I didn’t have to decide whether or not to keep something, I wished the things I didn’t need would just disappear and we could start over and it would be simple. But, that magic doesn’t exist and so we worked our tails off this weekend. It was nice actually and not really stressful. We took our time and worked room by room. Usually we’re out and about on weekends, but we stayed home most of the time when we weren’t running errands. I opened up the windows to let in the cool breeze, the sun was out and it wasn’t as chilly as it’s been lately. I lit some candles, lit some incense my mom used to light it when she cleaned, which was comforting to me.

We got so much done this weekend that I feel so great about this week. I still have a few things to finish up on my own house-wise. The laundry room, the laundry and some more cleaning to be precise. But soon this house will be the cleanest it has been since we moved in and that my friends makes all the hard work worth it, I say!

  • Those weekends are the best! Sounds like you got a ton done. I’ve been trying to de-clutter lately too and it feels so good to just get rid of stuff. Have simplifying!

  • Absolutely, they are the best! Good luck simplifying and getting rid of stuff! It’s pretty darn good for the soul, isn’t it?

  • I completely understand not wanting a ton of “Stuff” in your living. I recently got married and my husband bought a house like a month before our wedding. I tried to make sure I didn’t pack ‘stuff’ to bring to our new home (especially since I was moving from my mom’s house) and he tried not to purge his bachelor apartment of stuff as well, but some things managed to slip through. Two months since marriage, I think we’re finally getting down to the wire. It truly feels good once you’ve purged your abode of things.
