“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” – Proverbs 16:9

Do you do resolutions? I haven’t in a few years. I always seem to quit by day seven and usually don’t even realize it until day twenty-five. So I quit making resolutions. Those silly things bum me out. Last year I started picking a word instead. The word last year was “shine”. This year I was going to choose “action”, but it seemed too harsh. Too overwhelming. On Sunday, at church, one of the pastors talked about the need for rest. It’s so hard to rest in a world that tells us that busy is best. He talked about “trying softer” instead of “trying harder”. It confirmed to me that the word “action” was a little too much. This year, I’m going to try softer and so my word changed a bit.

A word that has resonated on my heart lately is “steps”. Taking steps towards my dreams, taking steps that our guided by God and not by my own plans, stepping into a life I want to live in, stepping out of my comfort zone, stepping into who I am and who I am meant to become. It’s gentle, but still involves taking action. It’s time for things to happen. I’m tired of not having a job, tired of being overwhelmed by my big dreams. I’m ready to take important steps. Big steps. It’s not going to be easy at all, but it’s going to be amazing. My goal is that by Christmas this year, I’ll be able to look back at all I accomplished this year, to be able to see how hard I’ve worked and the fruit that my hard work created. To truly be able to rest in that.

Happy 2013 to you all! I hope you all have a fantastic year.

    Happy New Year!

  • Steps is a great word for the year ahead! I can completely relate to dreams feeling overwhelming. I have already started taking steps towards mine, and with each step I know I am becoming more of the person I am meant to be. My word for the year is true. I want to stay true to my heart in every decision I make and every step I take. Happy New Year! I hope this is a great one for you.
