Before Mr. Snowman AKA Christmas Weekend 2010

posted on: Tuesday, January 18, 2011

For Christmas, we headed to North Carolina. This is what happened before we met Mr. Snowman.

My mom & step-father have a house in the mountains they just redid and we got to cozy up in that tiny house surrounded by snow. Literally, for a couple days there we were stuck. Remember that HUGE storm that traveled up the east coast? Yes, we were there!

Six people stuck on a mountain in a tiny house can be tough, but I couldn’t help admire the beauty of the snow.

This is a “before the snow hit” picture.

I also dyed my hair while I was there. Actually, the very night we got there. I mentioned that I had been thinking about it, so before we trekked up the mountain we bought a box. A glass of wine and 10 minutes later..I was a brunette.

..and I’m not going back blonde anytime soon.

Okay, back to the snow..

I’ve been praying for a snow-white Christmas since I could remember, being a Florida baby and all. God definitely delivered snow from each of the years I had prayed for it. Combined. I got to sled as much as I wanted and finally had a snowball fight.

The dark spot was where my car was parked before we moved it to the bottom of the mountain.

I received my brand new 35 mm f/1.8 Nikkor lens and had fun playing with it that day, there’s only so much you can photograph inside!

Remember Red? I talked about her on my old blog. She’s the mountain dog we’ve sort of adopted. Adam and I would have taken her home long ago if we knew she’d be okay, but she loves being free to explore too much. Still, I love on her a ton whenever I see her.

And Bo showed off our favorite trick..

Bo is our family dog. We’ve had him for about 10 years now. I think he just turned 13 officially two weeks ago. Anyway, we adopted him from the humane society and the day we took him home I was sitting down, playing with him and the big ol’ bear backed up and sat right on my lap. He’s part chow, hence the black spot on his tongue. I love him.

The snow started falling Christmas morning and didn’t stop for a few days after. We had to deal with losing a night in Asheville and being on hold with the Biltmore for over an hour. There was plenty of stress but luckily we headed to Asheville on Monday, just a day late and enjoyed a much needed vacation, but more on that later!

  • I really like the brown hair – it looks so good on you!

  • Thank you! :)

  • our dog does the back up butt move, too! so stinkin’ cute (just like your hair!).

  • Cute comment, Julie! ;) Thank you. I love that move. It’s too funny!

  • The brunette really suits you… and we all know brunettes have more fun ;)

  • I LOVE your hair darker–beautiful as always (of course) but your eyes pop like mad now–perfect contrast :)

  • I love you as a brunette! I’m naturally a brunette but used to highlight my hair all the time. Being a brunette is a lot less maintenance for sure.

P.S. I just gave you a blogger award on my last post. :)

  • I love the brunette look. I’m biased towards blondness, but you can absolutely rock both colors!

  • i love your hair, it’s awesome.

the snow is beautiful, i want a white christmas too

  • Thank you so much and I’m beginning to see your point. ;)

  • THANK YOU!! You’re so sweet. I love it, it’s like instant eyeliner. Okay, I still wear the eyeliner.

  • Yay! Thank you so much, Kelly. I’ll have to fill that out tomorrow. :) You’re so sweet. I can’t wait to be in Charlotte!

  • Thanks, Gabriela! You’re a beautiful blond, so I can understand the bias. :)

  • Thank you, Laura!

  • It’s Leo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I must confess, I’ve missed his funny puppy-self! :)

  • YES! I’m glad you remembered little Leo-butt. I miss him too!

  • Aw!!! what a fun time it looks like you had with all the snow!!

I am just loving your blog, btw.

Also, if you don’t mind sharing…do you have any advice on how to dye hair at home? I am needing to dye my hair for the first time at home, and I don’t really know how to go about it (I have very dark brown course/curly hair, and I am starting to see some stray grays…) I want to stick with dark brown, but have no idea on what brand to use.

PS. Looove all of your pics! You must have an awesome camera :)

  • Are those stuffing muffins? My mom used to make those for Christmas day when I was a kid. :)

    Oh, memories.

Ps…. your new hair is gorgeous! I know I saw it in person already, but I just wanted to remind you that you are beautiful! :)

  • Looks like a fun weekend! :) I really like your hair dark. It looks so pretty! :)

  • Bo looks so big and fluffy. Love dogs like that!
